Hon. Lady Justice Njoki Susanna Ndung’u EBS



Born in 1965, she is renowned for her efforts in the successive enactment of the Sexual Offences Act 2006 and Maternity and Paternity Act 2007. The former nominated Member of Parliament currently serves as a Supreme Court judge and executive Chairperson for Center for Legal Communication & Information in Kenya (CLICK).

She attended Kenya High School and after graduating she joined the Valley Secretarial College to do her secretarial. She later joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a career in Law. She holds a Masters of Law (LL.M) in Human Rights and Civil Liberties from the University of Leicester and a diploma in Women’s Human Rights from the World University Services, Austria.
As a crusader of women rights, she became a member of the Women in Law and Development in Africa (WILDAF). She has worked at the office of the Attorney General State Counsel, as well as a programme officer for the Institute for Education in Democracy in Africa and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
During her term in the 9th Parliament, she was in the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional Review, Departmental Committees charged with the Administration of Justice and Legal Affairs, as well as the Defense Committee. She was also notably part of the National Committee of Experts that drafted the New Constitution.
She is the first nominated Member of Parliament and politician to have the privilege to occupy the country’s 3rd Highest office in the Judiciary.
In 2005, she was honoured with the Eve Magazine Woman of the Year Award.
In 2006, she was awarded with UN Person of the Year Kenya 2006. The same year the International Commission of Jurist also awarded her with the Jurist of the Year Award and President Kibaki with an Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS).
